On October 2, 2007, after the Krewe's General
Meeting, Z Krewe held its annual Cake Cutting Ceremony, to select its
members of Royalty for the 2008 Mardi Gras season.
Any
regular Krewe member is eligible to serve as a member of Royalty, and can
opt to select a piece of Mardi Gras King Cake, inside which is hidden a baby
in one of five Mardi Gras-related colors: black, white, purple, green, and
gold. Members
who select the black, white, purple, or green babies serve as Royal Zoots
and Zaftigs, Z Krewe’s Royal Court.
The individuals who select the gold babies get to reign as that
year’s King and Queen Zanie!
Initiating
this year's ceremony, King Zanie XIII Bernie Bolanowski and Queen
Zanie XIII Kristie Schoppe cut the king cakes, and Big Daddy 14 Benton
Vandiver and Big Momma 14 Colleen Fountain hid the babies.
Five pieces of cake, each with a different
colored baby hidden inside, and two cakes, one for the men and one for the
women. Each candidate selected a piece of cake, and searched their
piece for the colored baby. Then, the selections were revealed.
This
year, the Mystic Hand of Fate has selected the following individuals as the
2008 Royal Court:

King
and Queen Zanie XIV will be crowned and the Royal Court will be presented at
the Coronation Ceremony scheduled in the Strand Theatre on January 12, 2008.
The Coronation Ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m., and will be held
immediately prior to the annual Z Krewe Ball, which will follow in the
Davidson Ballroom of the Tremont Hotel, in Galveston.
